Launching a community-led nonprofit newsroom in Cleveland

In November, we announced our involvement in a coalition of Cleveland-based organizations partnering with the American Journalism Project to launch an independent, community-led, nonprofit newsroom serving Cleveland in 2022. So far, the coalition has raised more than $5.8 million for this effort, with a goal to dramatically increase the volume of original, in-depth, non-partisan reporting in the region and support the efforts of Cleveland news outlets and community initiatives to make critical information available for free and in multiple formats to all who need it.

Enhance community greenspace with the Sustainable Cleveland Vital Neighborhoods Working Group

The Sustainable Cleveland Vital Neighborhoods Working Group is hosting the Neighborhood Greenspace Development Opportunities Program, which is a training class for residents that want to reuse vacant land in their neighborhoods for community greenspace.

This program builds off of a greenspace workshop series that took place in 2019 and 2020 called Cleveland Spaces Vital Places, which provided residents with information on tools and resources to help them develop sustainable greenspace projects. The new program is a series of 10 hands-on, interactive, skill development-focused training sessions that will help participants develop their project from the ground up. The classes take place every Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. until May 10. For more information, please email mfields@clevelandohio.gov.

This project is sponsored by Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, Saint Luke’s Foundation, Western Reserve Land Conservancy and Trust for Public Land.
